Armand's Antique Trunks -Fine Trunks since 1993

The SunRoomer
Circa WWII

I was cleaning out one of my storage sheds to make room for a few more trunks and I came across this trunk I had purchased years ago when I first started. Back then I could have used a book like, "Trunk buying for Dummies", because, out of fear of missing out on a real find I bought everything and anything that resembled a trunk. I had caught the decease and I was addicted to trunks. I had no idea what I was going to do with this trunk but that pretty much applied to any of them. The entire trunk, hardware and all was painted chocolate brown but I remember being impressed with it's otherwise good, sturdy construction and figured I'd find some use for it eventually. I discovered during the refinishing process that this was originally a Red Cross Supply Trunk, but the red cross in the white circle were too badly worn to save so I removed them.

The trunk on it's own is only 11 1/2 inches high which is not high enough to use as a coffee table but it's flat top was just too perfect not to be a coffee table, so I came up with this idea below. I made a solid wood stand for the trunk to rest on. The stand is made from White Oak and Black Cherry cut from my own wood lot. Now it stands 16 1/2 inches from the floor.

The trunk was designed to either stand on end  for carrying by either one person if it was light or two people when it was fully loaded with supplies. The metal parts were all clear coated to prevent rust. Maintain the entire trunk with a light wax polish once a year.
The stand was made specific for this trunk, hand made and custom fit. Neither are sold separately and there will never be another one just like it.

Made by the McBrine company from Kitchener, Ontario Canada. There was no tray in this trunk originally but I did modify the inside very slightly to accommodate a few magazines standing on edge at the back of the trunk. The inside is otherwise all original and in mint condition.
