| Oak slat trunks were the only trunks ever made with an exterior wood finish, that's what makes them so special, unique and sturdy. All other trunks made either had a leather, canvas or metal covering on the exterior. Don't confuse the oak slats that make up this trunk with the oak staves than run across the top and front in the picture below. Look a little closer to see the individual strips of oak than run vertically and horizontally under the staves. |
| The hundred or more trunk nails are new and brass plated, not painted with gold hobby paint. All the hardware used on this trunk is antique hardware salvaged from other trunks, no reproduction hardware was used. |

| Solid brass rivets were used to install the hardware where required, brass plated nails were used otherwise. The lock and latches work like new, key included. |

| The oak slats are a full 3/8" thick and 1 1/2" wide, making this beauty a little heavier than most ordinary trunks and a lot more solid. The design is burned into the oak and is permanent. I used oil based colored stain and it is also permanent. The entire exterior surface of the trunk is protected with several coats of pure natural tung oil. I never use polyurethane on my trunks, it eventually dries, cracks and flakes off. |

| The leather handles were custom made to handle the extra weight. All of the black metal was sandblasted to remove rust and spray painted with black rust resistant paint. The pewter like antique hardware has been clear coated to prevent rusting. |
